New technology! Murradoc Farm proving that oils ain’t oils
 
Processing award winning olive oil relies on a number of aspects, quality olives, good harvesting methods and good quality processing equipment, said Dale Stelfox of Murradoc Farm. The decision to purchase the Pegaso 500, three years ago and now upgrading to the OMT X15 super decanter, 1.5t/hr press with 4X 700kg malaxes, for our processing requirements was made on the basis of many factors; being quality processing of olive oil, high yields, dry pomace and confidence in the installation process, technical back-up and support.
 
Over 3 years we worked closely with Australian Olive Oil supplies and OMT, Italian suppliers, to ensure we chose the right equipment for our processing needs. Five unique patents differentiate the OMT olive oil specific decanter design to others on the market today. An example is the benefits derived from a waste water processing perspective by separating in ‘one’ pass, extractions in three separate streams, clean waste water, dry waste pomace and clean extra virgin olive oil. Key issues with water BOD and waste pomace handling are dramatically improved as compared to the many issues caused by alternative 2 phase processes. The ‘double extraction’ decanter design has demonstrated considerable performance advantage as to olive oil yield extraction volume. In many instances the extra yield could be as high as 3% extra. “This transfers into real dollars given the market price of a litre of extra virgin olive oil”, said Paul Baggio, Product Development Manager, Australian Olive Oil Supplies. One phase technology provides high quality extra virgin olive oil, processed in one passing of the decanter without a requirement to further vertical centrifuge. This is a powerful operational benefit, yet clearly as vertical separation damages olive oil quality, the real advantage is that OMT offers the highest quality extraction design of all large commercial olive oil extraction systems on the market today.
 
After observing the unique X15 decanter, OMT processing equipment, to be installed by Australian Beverage Services (ABS), partner company with Australian Olive Oil Supplies, Murradoc Farm was reassured that the quality machinery and technical services team accessible Australia wide and New Zealand, would best service their needs. 3 years on and Murradoc Farm are producing award winning olive oil year after year.
